Malad, Idaho - Jesse Nicholas Ward, 81, of Malad, died at the family home this morning following a lingering illness.
He was born April 17, 1874, in Snowville, Utah, a son of George and Eunice Alice (Nicholas) Ward. He moved to Woodruff, Idaho, while a small boy, where he received his education. He married Julia Ann Moon Jan. 1, 1896, at Henderson Creek, Idaho. He was a member of the LDS Church and an elder in the Malad First Ward. He was a prominent farmer and livestock grower in the Malad Valley and a director of the Malad First National Bank.
He is survived by his widow, five sons and two daughters: Julia Jessie Lorenzo Ward, George Merlin Ward, Elmer Mosiah Ward, John Clesmer Ward and Elden Keith Ward, Mrs. Ida Daniels and Julia LaVerne Ward, all of Malad; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters: Arthur M. Ward, Malad; Richard A. Ward, Pocatello; Mrs. Eunice A. Harris and Mrs. Pearl W. Thomas, both of Malad.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Malad First Ward Chapel with Bishop D. Dredge Thomas officiating. Friends may call at the family home tomorrow after 5 p.m. and Thursday until time of services. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery, under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home. | Allen M. BETTY JEAN LANDIS Betty Jean (Ziegler) Landis, 79, of Franconia, went home to be with the Lord, in the presence of her family on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Peter Becker Community. Beloved wife of Ralph H. Landis for 59 years. Born in Vernfield, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lizzie ( Landis) Ziegler. Betty Jean was devoted to her family, and known for her cooking. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and family vacations to the mountains and to the beach. She was a life long member of Franconia Mennonite Church. In addition to her husband Ralph, she is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Landis of Franconia, and Betty Ann Clemmer and her husband, Jerry, of Harleysville; a son Laverne Z. Landis and his wife Robin of Telford; two brothers, Russell Ziegler and his wife, Sara, of Souderton and Irwin Ziegler and his wife, Mary, of Harleysville; a sister, Dorothy Detweiler and her husband, Stanley, of Telford; two granddaughters, Tina Clemmer of Arlington, VA and Erin Landis of Telford; and a grandson, Brett Clemmer of Harleysville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Loreen Allebach and Kathryn Bergey. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, at 7:30 PM at Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, where friends may meet with the family on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery in Franconia. Memorial contributions may be made to Benevolent Fund c/o Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA. 18969. Arrangements are by Anders Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory in Souderton.
