    Notes
    • Excerpt from Pioneer Women of Faith and Fortitude

Priscilla was a beautiful girl of Puritan descent. When she was thirteen years old her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved to New York, Ohio, Missouri and Illinois, suffering persecution in each of the places.
In Nauvoo, Illinois, Priscilla met Warner Hoopes, a twenty-three year old shoemaker, and they were married. During the day, while Warner helped with the construction of the Nauvoo Temple, Priscilla would sew the upper parts of the shoes he had cut out the night before.
They were among those who remained in Nauvoo until September of 1846, suffering much persecution and being driven from their home with only their little children and what they could carry. While camped on the Iowa side of the river they were fed by themiracle of the quails.
They traveled to St. Joseph, Missouri where Warner found work as a charcoal burner to earn enough money to cross the Plains. Here again tragedy befell them, when Warner was put into prison on a false charge and it took all their money for lawyer fees and court costs. Priscilla wove willow baskets which the children sold from door to door to provide the necessities for her family.
In 1859, they crossed the Plains with a company led by Harlow Redfield. Upon entering the Salt Lake Valley, they made their home in Richmond, Cache Valley.
They were among the first seven families to settle Weston, Idaho. Here Priscilla helped Warner in making shoes. She was also a midwife for the area.
Priscilla was a true Latter-day Saint, serving faithfully in the Church.
