Notes |
- The earliest mention of Moses Rowley is found in the will of WilliamPalmer, Sr., of Duxbury, MA dated November 7, 1637, which speaks ofyoung Moses in affectionate terms and provides that he be brought upby the minister of Duxbury, Mr. Partridge, if the parents consent. Norelationship with Moses has been mentioned by the testator. Evidentlythe parents of Moses did not agree to this arrangement, and he livedwith his parents at Barnstable and Falmouth. There is no indicationthat he ever lived at Duxbury. InMarch, 1653-4, Moses Rowley isallowed a cow from the estate of William Palmer, Sr., deceased, probably as an equivalent for the provisions of the will.
In 1681 he was living at Falmouth and was constable in that year. In1692 he was a member of the General court of Massachusetts Bay, underthe new charter which annexed Plymouth government to Massachusetts. Inthe spring of the same year he bought land at Machimoodus (now EastHaddam), and removed there.
His wife, Elizabeth, disapproved of the removal, and in 1714 made adeed in which she declared that she had been left without support anddependent upon the bounty of her sons, John Fuller and Moses Rowley, and conveyed to them all her right of dower to lands at Falmouth whichher husband had sold to the Parker's without her consent. MosesRowley's will is dated August 16, 1704, and proved at Hartford,Connecticut, March 8, 1705-
