    • MILDRED BUCHER Mildred L. Bucher, 78, of 118 Main St., Salunga, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 9, 2005. She had Parkinsons for the final 15 years. Born March 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harvey M. and Susan (Landes) Alderfer. She was raised in Harleysville, the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Isaiah, and a sister, Marie. Mildred married John C. Bucher March 2, 1947. They were married 58 years. Two years after their wedding, they moved to Dover, where they farmed for the next 26 years. During that time, she was also a member and actively involved at Stony Brook Mennonite Church. From September 1975 to September 1977, she and her husband served with Mennonite Voluntary Service in Philadelphia under Eastern Mennonite Missions. While living there, she related to the Oxford Circle Mennonite Church, and enjoyed serving with the VS unit and people in the community. In 1977, she and her husband moved to Salunga, where she worked as the cook in the kitchen of EMM for 16 years. She also was hostess for the Missionary Closet. She was a member of Erisman Mennonite Church. She taught Sunday school for many years, sewed comforters and hosted many families in her home, including international students. She especially enjoyed time with her family, including traveling overseas to visit some of them on their mission assignments. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by two sons, John Paul Bucher and his wife, Esther, of Richmond, VA and Kenneth Bucher and his wife, Evie, of Manheim; two daughters, Ruth Mellinger and her husband, Jim, of Greensboro, NC and Nancy Rotfort and her husband, Steve, of Hickory, NC; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Sunday, Dec. 11 at Erisman Mennonite Church, 8 South Erisman Road, Manheim, from 3 to 6 PM. Following a private interment at Erisman Cemetery, there will be a public memorial service Monday at 6:30 PM at Erisman Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice Care, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or EMM, 53 W. Brandt Blvd., Salunga, PA 17538. Arrangements are by the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 247 Main St., Landisville.
