Allen Richardson
Allen Richardson was born in Baugo Township, Elkhart Co, Indiana April 4, 1849 and spent most of his boyhood days in this home. He was married April 10, 1870 to Sarah E Moon. Most of their married life was spent on a farm about 2 miles south and west of Osceola. Two children, Bertha and George, were born here. Bertha died at the age of four. In 1916 the Richardson’s retired from farming and moved to their home in Mishawaka. Later they lived with their son George in this same city. Sarah Richardson died August 6, 1930 and Allen followed her in death May 13, 1932 at the age of eighty- three years.
Mr. Richardson was six feet tall and of sandy complexion. He was unusually straight and rugged in appearance and lived a very active life. Besides being a farmer, he prided himself in being an expert sheepshearer, a task he always enjoyed. He loved to sing especially hymns and he had great power in prayer.
He was of a deeply religious nature. For many years he was a trustee of the Osceola M.E. Church. Later he took an active part in the First M.E. Church of Mishawaka, especially in the Men’s Bible Class. At the time of his death he was an active member of the East Mishawaka M.E. Church. Throughout his life he was an inspiration to all who knew him.
